REACH Student Intern
Job Summary
Student Interns are undergraduate scholars who play a key role in supporting the REACH Scholars Program at Susquehanna University. They assist with clerical tasks, help organize workshops and events, and serve as leaders within the program. In some cases, Student Interns may also mentor new scholars, providing guidance, encouragement, and support to help them transition successfully into college life. The goal of the Student Intern Program is to empower underrepresented students to achieve, lead, and serve, fostering the development of future leaders.
Specific Responsibilities
- Provide clerical support to REACH staff, including tasks such as filing, creating posters, and inputting data as needed.
- Organize and lead at least one workshop or activity for REACH Scholars during the academic year.
- Serve as a reliable resource and referral agent for students, offering relevant information and support.
- Attend all scheduled REACH program activities and events.
- Participate in weekly student employee meetings for updates, planning, and communication.
- If assigned mentees, maintain regular contact, plan activities, and establish communication at the start of each semester.
- Work no more than 6 hours per week.
- If assigned to marketing engagement, peer interns will take the initiative to brainstorm and develop creative ideas, and with the support of REACH staff, will lead the execution of marketing strategies to promote REACH Scholars programs and increase community participation.
- Collaborate with each other and campus partners to creatively develop and lead at least one workshop or activity for REACH Scholars during the academic year, taking the initiative to enhance the program offerings and foster greater engagement within the community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by REACH staff.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Must be a REACH Scholar and have a current signed agreement on file
- Personable, flexible, and considerate of the needs of new students
- Have at least a 3.0 GPA (good standing), or shown significant academic improvement and have permission from Director
- Must be available for ALL training courses. These training sessions can take place in the spring, fall, or summer.
- Must attend at least 3 workshops each semester and help with set up/clean up
- Must make REACH events a priority (if you have another campus job, make sure you will be able to meet the qualifications of both before applying)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and balance multiple commitments, including academics, employment, and extracurricular activities preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse populations and foster an inclusive environment preferred.
- Familiarity with organizing events, workshops, or activities that promote student engagement and development preferred.
- A proactive and reliable approach to fulfilling responsibilities, including setup, cleanup, and event preparation preferred.

- Balance responsibilities, including clerical duties, workshop planning, and mentoring (if applicable), while maintaining a schedule of no more than 6 hours per week.

- Demonstrate respect for and engagement with diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences within the REACH Scholars community.
- Foster professional growth
- Build transferable skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability to prepare for future academic and professional roles.
Education
First Year, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. All Majors
A GPA higher than 3.0, indicating consistent academic achievement preferred.
Experience
No experience required. Proven experience in leadership roles, mentoring, or peer support on campus or in the community preferred. Completion of relevant training or coursework, such as mentoring or leadership seminars preferred. Prior involvement with REACH Scholars preferred.

- This position is paid $9.50 per hour, with an estimate of 6 hours weekly.

- Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach.
- Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending.
- Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
