Psychology - NetVUE Intern at Transitions of PA - Counselor/Advocate Intern (Summer 2025)

Job Summary 

Transitions of PA is a crisis center that provides advocacy, empowerment, and education to survivors, victims, families, and community to end patterns of violence and abuse. During the summer of 2025, the Counselor/Advocate Intern will work under the supervision of Transitions staff members. During training, supervision will be provided by the Programs Director. After the training is complete, supervision will be by the Counseling Coordinator. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provision of direct services to primary and secondary adult and child victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other serious crimes. 
  • Requires providing counseling, on a one-to-one basis, through group facilitation, or via the hotline to empower individuals and strengthen families. 
  • Responsibilities require the exercise of independent judgment and technical knowledge of the specific area of assignment and of overall agency activities. 
  • The Counselor/Advocate Intern is a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse as defined by PA Child Protective Services Law.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. Natural and social science majors only.  
  • Ability to commute to downtown Lewisburg business locations.
  • Willingness to work with a diverse group of clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the team and clients.
  • Ability to complete an 80-hour mandatory training in order to work directly with victims and survivors.
  • Basic proficiency with computers.
  • Ability to work with detailed and confidential client information.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop and demonstrate trauma-informed skills by providing support to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and other serious crimes.
  • Enhance advocacy and crisis response abilities through providing direct services to survivors (e.g., emotional support, safety planning, and resources referrals).
  • Understand legal and ethical responsibilities in victim services around confidentiality, ethical guidelines, and best practices.
  • Build multidisciplinary competency through collaborating with counselors, advocates, and other professionals via training, case consultation, and other professional development.

Education

Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. Natural and social science majors only.  

 

Experience

No previous experience required. Students who are interested in gaining experience in social services/nonprofits to strengthen their qualifications for graduate or professional school are encouraged to apply.

Additional Requirements

This position is paid $15.00 per hour, with an estimate of 40 hours weekly. Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse clearance and an FBI criminal history check are required for this position.

  • Working conditions are indoors.
