OLE-JCCE INTERN

Job Summary:
The Johnson Center for Civic Engagement (JCCE) facilitates meaningful connections between students and local service opportunities that resonate with their passions. By bridging students and community partners, we enable partners to accomplish their projects effectively while offering students a transformative experience that enhances their civic skills.

As the JCCE continues to evolve, this Intern role will be pivotal in laying the foundation for its future direction. We seek dedicated individuals who can inspire student involvement through innovative programming that fosters active participation. Our overarching aim is to cultivate a campus-wide culture that prioritizes service, encouraging widespread student engagement and bolstering community connections.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist in general office upkeep and program creation.
  • Assist in outreach to community partners, evaluating their needs and interests in working with Susquehanna University students and Partners.
  • Organize student engagement opportunities, and act as a liaison to student clubs and organizations when it comes to interaction with the JCCE.
  • Coordinate and assist with the management of SU Student volunteers, both planning and potentially on-site.
  • Work closely with the Office of First Year Experience to help coordinate and market service-related events, and other major events involved with leadership and Engagement.
  • Develop physical and digital marketing using social media tools and resources via platforms such as Canva to recruit and encourage student participation, spreading awareness of events.
  • A general availability for SU service events.
  • Communicate with the Offices such as Event Management, Facilities ARAMARK, etc.
  • Create a document of accomplishments/transition reports for future workers and coordinators to use as a reference.
  • Develop reflection tools and resources for SPLASH and GIVE participants as well as surveys through various platforms.
  • Perform other duties to contribute to the overall success of the Johnson Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership and Engagement.
  • Act as a representative of Susquehanna University by supporting the school’s mission and goals responsibly and ethically. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge and interest in topics related to community engagement and outreach, social science, environmental, and global justice is preferred 
  • Knowledge and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, including community partners, Fraternity and Sorority life, SU staff, students, and faculty.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to situations
  • Ability to be highly organized and handle multiple priorities required.
  • Must have strong writing skills.

Learning Objectives:

The Summer JCCE General Staffer will develop key skills in program creation, event coordination, and student engagement by organizing service opportunities and collaborating with campus organizations and community partners. This role will enhance abilities in community outreach, project management, and professional communication while fostering cultural awareness by working with diverse groups. Staffers will also gain experience in digital marketing through the use of tools like Canva, helping to promote events and recruit volunteers. Additionally, they will refine organizational skills by documenting accomplishments and creating reflection tools for program participants, ensuring a lasting impact on future engagement efforts.

By working closely with university offices and community partners, the staffer will act as a liaison, contributing to the overall success of the JCCE. This position provides hands-on experience in leadership, service, and ethical representation of Susquehanna University, supporting the school’s mission to enhance student and community connections through meaningful service.

Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. All Majors

Experience

No experience required. Community outreach experience and the ability to communicate professionally and effectively is preferred. Experience working with some or all the following topics is highly desirable: Equipment and Software Knowledge such as social media management, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Graphic Design (desired, not required)

Additional Requirements     

  • This position is paid $10.00 per hour, with an estimated 10 hours weekly.
  • Perform other duties to contribute to the overall success of the Johnson Center for Civic Engagement.
