Job Summary 

Leadership and Engagement is looking for an energetic, school spirited, fun and engaging student to be the Susquehanna University Mascot, Benny the Riverhawk! This student will act as the mascot during sporting events and programs throughout the academic year. Students may also act as the mascot handler to make sure the mascot is safe during events. This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible, non-exempt position as defined by FLSA standards.  

Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform as the mascot character at various events and functions
  • Engage and interact with children and other event attendees
  • Entertain and create a fun atmosphere for all participants
  • Pose for photos and participate in promotional activities
  • Follow a set performance schedule and maintain high energy levels throughout the event
  • Educate children, students and community members about the mascot character and its purpose
  • Cooperate with any costuming or makeup requests
  • Report any problems or concerns with regards to costumes or equipment
  • Learn about your sport if you are not already knowledgeable
  • Ability to maintain high levels of energy for long periods of time
  • Ad-libbing ability to keep audience entertained

Additional Requirements

This position is paid $8.00 per hour, with an estimate of 8 hours weekly.

Physical Demand

  • Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach.
